Dear Constant Reader,
Semidi has put up the following information regarding the "Slusho" thing in JJ Abrams mystery project.
It's interesting reading, but I think the Lovecraft deal is way off base.
from Semidi :
More About the Slusho: The Dagon Connection
Commenter “docangst” notes a possible connection to Slusho! and the use of the god Dagon by H.P. Lovecraft, reviving Cloverfield’s Cthulhu angle.
The “History” page at Slusho.jp recounts Ganu’s dream of drinking the secret ingredient and turning into a whale as a result. This is reminiscent of the transformation of the god Dagon’s worshipers (”the Deep Ones”) into fish-like creatures resembling the deity in the Lovecraft story, “The Shadow Over Innsmouth.”
Dagon was a god of agriculture later drawn into a fish-god tradition by early maritime worshipers according to Wikipedia. The family name “Yoshida,” as previously noted, means “lucky/joyful rice field” and is also a reference to agriculture. The discovery by Ganu Yoshida of Slusho’s! secret ingredient “on the deep ocean floor, under amazing pressure and in the most extreme cold” also dovetails with Dagon and the Deep Ones.
