Dear Constant Reader,

This woman clearly has "I'm a cunt who's husband is cheating on me" tone about her, and she spreads it all over this article about the upcoming JJ Abrams film "Cloverfield" :

Have we learned nothing from "Snakes on a Plane" or "Blair Witch Project"?

Perhaps you get 2 million hits when you Google "Cloverfield" and "preview" because people are so tantalized by the idea of J.J. Abrams' new film that they can't stop e-ing about it.

Maybe this isn't a giant game being orchestrated by Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot. But lest we forget, Abrams also hatched "Lost."

The trailer for the unnamed film that appears to have all of geekdom gawking -- and then some -- made its debut when "Transformers" opened July 3. An unidentifiable monster, a source of intense online debate, decapitates the Statue of Liberty in the movie imdb.com says is referred to as "Cloverfield."

Blairwitch.com, which helped make "Witch" a cult phenom, looked like the real thing. But so far, 1-18-08.com, named for "Cloverfield's" opening date, only offers two photos. Fans (or Abram's plants?) have nearly sprained their brains dissecting the trailer for clues. Paramount Pictures has stayed busy pulling the trailer off "unofficial" Web sites. (Copyright issues? Or viral marketing?)

It has all the ear, er, bite marks of "Snakes on a Plane" hype without the "Witch" craft . . . especially since Paramount has re-posted the preview at apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808. It's also available, along with all kinds of theories, conspiracy and otherwise, at youtube.com. Just search Cloverfield.
